State food and health inspectors have mandated follow-up inspections for California Pizza Kitchen after the restaurant was cited for multiple repeat violations during a recent inspection.
According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspection reports, on January 3, California Pizza Kitchen, located in the Sawgrass Mills mall, underwent a health inspection and was cited for seven violations.
The reported issues included claims by inspectors that the restaurant had an apparent problem with live-flying insects in the kitchen and food preparation areas. Inspectors noted that they also observed flying insects landing on pizza boxes across from the cook line.
The person in charge of the restaurant was ordered to discard the contaminated boxes and address the fly issue. The inspector also marked that the fly issue was a repeat violation for the establishment.
Records show a “Stop Sale” was issued for time/temperature control for safety food due to improper cooling practices. The inspection also revealed cold-holding temperature violations.
Several items, including cooked beef, raw shrimp, shredded cheese, pasta, and pork sausage, were stored at unsafe temperatures, ranging from 42°F to 48°F. According to the restaurant’s operator, these items had been out of temperature control for about an hour and were subsequently placed in a cooler with ice bags to rapidly cool.
The inspector notes that food temperature and storage issues also constituted repeat violations.
California Pizza Kitchen must address the violations to comply with health and safety regulations before its follow-up inspection or face closure by inspectors.
