Piper High School Top Student-Athletes Receive Conference Awards

Piper High School had a strong spring sports season, with Honorable Mentions to the All-Conference Team in baseball, flag football, and track and field.

The baseball team went 11-10-1 this year, including one postseason game, and had Demetrius Angeletos, Joseph Cuminale, Oscar Muniz, Valentino Pupo, Julius Torres, and Jonathan Rodriguez all picked.

Angeletos hit .366 with four doubles and 13 RBIs, while Cuminale batted .353 with one home run and eight RBIs. Oscar Muniz drove in eight and hit exactly .400 on the year, with Pupo recording seven extra bases and batting .434.

Torres and Rodriguez each shined on the mound, and Torres pitched to an ERA of.1.66 In seven games, while Rodriguez had an ERA of .85, they also combined to strike out 67 batters in 58.1 innings.

The flag football team went 12-4, reaching the postseason and securing a win against Cypress Bay High School. They went on to lose 26-0 against Western High School but had J’Alliyah Shorter, Morvia Stephenson, and Sophonie Gedeon.

Shorter had 100 rushing yards, 241 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. Stephenson was the leading receiver with 28 catches for 356 yards and six scores, while Gedeon caught 11 passes for 120 yards.

Josh Tucker was from the track and field team and came in fourth in the 110 hurdles at the BCAA and Districts Championship. He placed ninth at the Regional Championship after winning two races earlier this year in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. Deani McDowell was an Honorable Mention for the girls’ team.
