
Piper High School Baseball. {Piper Atheltics}
Piper High School had a strong week of athletics, led by a track and field relay team that took first place at Blanche Ely High School.
Ryan Inmon, Ahmad Dejean, Adonai Joseph, Doudley, and Jean Mary took first in the 4 x 800 relay. At the same time, Rylan Sinclair, Jayden Daley, Alijah Pessia, and Andre Wilson placed second in the 4 x 400 relay. Julien Halley, Jordan London, Terrance Gillins, and Davaris Lawson finished third in the 4 x 100 relay.
Individually, Piper was also impressed with the hurdles, with Josh Tucker placing second in the 110 hurdles and Decree McCarthy finishing third. Patrick Hylton came in third in the 400 hurdles, followed by Alijah McKenzie, Decree McCarthy, and Josh Tucker. Kenneth Pierre had the team’s other second-place finish in the shot put, with Tommie James finishing third in the discus.
On the track, Lawson, Gillins, Wilson, Daley, Descombes, and Wesley Atkins had the lowest times in races to help the Bengals finish fourth as a team. Giovanny Barnetta was also among the top seven in the triple jump and long jump.
The girls team came in eighth place but also succeeded in the 4 x 400 relay, with Tashara Connell, Paris Robinson, Tatiana Jones, and Ja’brea Gordon coming in fourth. Akeelah Birch placed sixth in the 100 meters, while Gordon and Allyson Knowles came in seventh in their events. Raenya Morris also had a ninth-place finish in the 400 meters.
The baseball team continued its strong start, winning its last five games. The Bengals are 8-2-1 this year and recently beat Boyd H. Anderson High School 17-0 on Monday. The Bengals have scored 75 runs in their last five games and have four straight shutouts. They will play two more games before spring break before ramping back up on April 1 against Coral Springs Charter.
The flag football team has two straight games, outscoring their opponents 64-0 following wins against J.P Taravella and McArthur High School. The Bengals are 6-2 this year and previously beat Blanche Ely, Pompano Beach, and Cooper City High School. They will play their next game on Monday, March 10, against South Plantation High School at 5:45 p.m.
