The Piper High School football team made Senior Night memorable with a dominant win over Boyd H. Anderson High School on Friday night.
The Bengals recognized 20 seniors: Jonah Julien, John Hodge, Jason Thomas, Alijah Pessoa, Jatavis Groover, Khalil Jefferson, Caleb Henry, D’Tyler Marc, Breeze David, Immanuel Reid, Terrnayc Payne, John Wright, Marco Lopez, Shawn Berry, Ruben Volley, Julian Johaness, Joset Teijeiro, Rylan Bruce, Ishmael Jean Baptise and Sayf Hawa.
“Always great to get a win on Senior Night, glad to send those guys out with a victory, and several of them had games that they will remember forever,” Head Coach Quentin Short said. “Very special for me and the four guys who stuck with the program for all four years with Alijah Pessoa, Khalil Jefferson, Shawn Berry and Julian Johaness.”
Darker Marc got Piper off to a fast start, scoring on the opening kickoff to make it 7-0. After forcing a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, the Bengals were stopped on fourth down but quickly responded when Julien returned a fumble for a touchdown just over three minutes into the game.
Marc added his second touchdown later in the first quarter before the Cobras got on the board. However, Piper took control from there, with Robert Khan scoring a touchdown and Maksim Steuber connecting with Thomas to give the Bengals a 33-7 halftime lead.
Jonathan Rivers opened the second half with a kickoff return for a touchdown, while Khan and Marc added long touchdown runs to help Piper improve to 5-2 this season.
Next, the Bengals will face Western High School on Friday, October 16, at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are also 5-2, with their losses coming against seven-time defending state champion St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Cypress Bay High School in overtime.
