The Piper High School football team suffered a 28-0 loss to Cardinal Gibbons in its regular-season finale on Friday night, but the Bengals still have more football to play as they prepare for the postseason.
Piper finished the regular season with a 5-5 record, picking up victories against Plantation, Flanagan, Monarch, Deerfield Beach and Boyd H. Anderson High School.
The Bengals opened the season with a win over Plantation before bouncing back from a loss to McArthur with a thrilling 36-34 victory against Monarch. Piper continued to build momentum with wins over Flanagan, Deerfield Beach and Boyd H. Anderson, including a victory on Senior Night.
Despite dropping their final three games against Western, Coconut Creek and Cardinal Gibbons, the Bengals remained competitive throughout much of the season. They fell 26-20 against Western before coming up just short in a 27-24 loss to Coconut Creek in a game that ultimately decided the District Championship.
