Elijah Lee Gallagher {BSO}
A Sunrise man was arrested hours after being released from jail after police said he assaulted his stepfather with a bag of sandwiches.
According to a Sunrise Police Department arrest report, Elijah Lee Gallagher, 25, was arrested October 22 on a charge of domestic battery following the confrontation at the apartment where he lived with his family.
Police say Gallagher’s stepfather told officers the argument began because Gallagher was hungry and had not eaten since being released from the Broward County Main Jail at approximately 1:30 p.m. that day.
His mother repeatedly asked what he wanted to eat, but Gallagher did not answer, according to the report. When she returned from Publix, he asked what she had brought him.
After being reminded that he had not responded to the earlier questions about food, Gallagher allegedly became frustrated and threatened a family member, saying, “You’re going to drown in blood.”
Police say Gallagher pushed his stepfather near the door as the man attempted to calm the situation. As his stepfather began walking away, Gallagher allegedly grabbed a grocery bag containing a package of Jimmy Dean sandwiches and threw it toward his head, injuring him.
According to the report, Gallagher’s mother witnessed the incident, told him to stop, and began calling his uncle. Gallagher then ran outside the apartment and called Sunrise police. The report states that he ripped his shirt while speaking with the dispatcher.
According to police, Gallagher declined to speak with officers and said he would speak with a judge. Officers arrested him and transported him back to the Broward County Main Jail, where he had been released just hours earlier.
