The Piper High School boys and girls soccer teams hosted senior night on Thursday, while the basketball and wrestling teams were also in action.
The girls soccer team played a 1-1 tie against South Plantation High School on Thursday, with Christelle Lozano scoring a goal assisted by Thea Rahim. They also honored Izabella Ramirez, Lauren Gentles, Abigail Padilla, Lexi Morel, Niyah D’Meza, and Isabel Ocasio. Piper is now 13-3-2 after another tie in their next game against Monarch High School this year and previously had wins this last week over Stranahan and Northeast High School.
The boy’s soccer team lost 3-0 against South Plantation High School with Carter McCrary, Miguel Moreno Quintero, Darwin Villada, Christopher O’Neil, Zaden Jeantinord, Kevin Thermos, Ayden Thompson, and Tyler Morrison. However, Piper started their week with a 2-1 win against Stanton High School before losing to Northeast and Monarch High School and are 5-10-1 this year.
Next, both teams will play Piper High School in their next game on Tuesday, January 14, at 7 p.m. That will be the final game of the regular season for the girls, while the boys will play Coconut Creek and West Broward High School later this week.
The girls basketball team lost 44-41 against Chaminade Madonna High School on Wednesday In their first game of the new year. Jnaiya Johnson, though, did score 20, while Talia Dolce added 11. Jayla Ellison, Naomi Taylor, and Tanya Brown all scored.
The boys basketball team also played their first game of the new year on Thursday and lost 65-61 against Miramar High School. The Bengals trailed by 13 at halftime but came back to tie the game at the end of the third quarter. However, they were outscored 19-14 in the fourth.
Next, the boys teams will play Charles W Flanagan High School on Tuesday, January 14, starting at 6 p.m. The Falcon basketball teams have combined for five wins a year.
