
BCAA All-Star Soccer Game. {BCAA}
Piper High School had another big week of sports, highlighted by five student-athletes competing in the BCAA All-Star Games.
Klass Brisseau and David Santos represented the boys’ soccer team after a season in which the Bengals went 8-7-5. Santos played a key role on defense while helping support Brisseau in goal, as the senior goalkeeper finished the season with 194 saves.
On the girls’ side, Allyson Knowles led the team with 32 goals and added three assists. She concluded her four-year career with 53 goals while helping the Bengals win nine games this season.
Jakari Smith and Julian Samaroo were both selected to represent the boys’ basketball team in the All-Star Game after finishing among the team’s top scorers this season. The Bengals went 9-11 before being knocked out by Monarch High School in the district tournament. In wrestling, London Yelder competed at the state championships and recorded a win after previously winning her third District Title.
The baseball team dominated the Hialeah Gardens High School game, winning 18-1 for its second victory of the season. Landanien McKenzie led the way with a home run and seven RBIs while also earning the win on the mound. Piper scored at least three runs in each of the four innings. Tyson Robles and Mason Langley each drove in three runs. The Bengals also added a 4-3 win over Pompano Beach High School on Wednesday.
The softball team earned its first two wins of the season, closing out the month of February. dropped three straight games in March, losing 18-3 against McArthur, 19-8 against Deerfield Beach High School, and 27-6 against Coral Springs High School.
The boys’ volleyball team started the season winless after losses to Fort Lauderdale High School, J.P. Taravella, and Coconut Creek High School. However, they earned a forfeit win over Plantation High School before dropping their last match in three sets to Coconut Creek High School.
The flag football team has dominated this season, winning eight of its first 10 games. The Bengals have won five straight following shutout victories last week over Pembroke Pines Charter, Blanche Ely, and J.P. Taravella.
Piper outscored its opponents 123-0 in those games and also recognized its seniors: Sophonie Gedeon, Victoria Zevallos, Kezandean Green, and Makylah Magnus. The Bengals, though, fell to Marjory Stoneman Douglas 31-19 in their last game.
The track and field team competed at Blanche Ely High School, with the boys finishing fourth overall. Second-place finishes came from Jahmani Chin-Suer in the 100 meters, Patrick Hylton in the 400 hurdles, Giovanny Barnett in the triple jump, and the 4×100 relay team of Josh Tucker, Jabez Clarke, Jahmani Chin-Suer, and Dontae Redwood. The girls’ team placed seventh, highlighted by the 4×100 relay team finishing as runner-up and Samyah Louidor placing third in the 100 meters.
