While the Piper High School soccer teams were eliminated from the postseason, the basketball teams will get their shot at winning a District Championship.
Soccer
The boys soccer team lost 2-0 against Boyd H. Anderson High School in their first game on Friday. The Bengals were seeded sixth and finished the season 5-14-1, with their wins coming against Miramar, Hollywood Hills, Dillard, Somerset Prep, and Stranahan High School. They scored 16 goals this year, with Fritz Duclosy scoring half of them. Judley Poiteven had four, while Eric Calderon scored two, and Werikson Dr. Souza, Dudeley Cadet, Klass Brisseau, and Nathan Bonilla had one. Carter McCrary, Miguel Moreno Quintero, Darwin Villada, Christopher O’Neil, Zaden Jeantinord, Kevin Thermos, Ayden Thompson, and Tyler Morrison will graduate this year.
The girls soccer team was the top seed in Districts but was upset after their bye, losing to Coral Springs High School 2-0 in the semifinals. Their season ends after going 14-4-2 despite Lauren Gentiles finishing the season with a team-high 35 goals and 77 points. Allyson Knowles added 14 goals while Isabella Ocasio played well in net and had seven goals. Avani Medina and Madison Delamotte wash had six, while Melody Delamotte and Christelle Losano combined for five. Their seniors are Izabella Ramirez, Gentles, Abigail Padilla, Lexi Morel, Niyah D’Meza, and Ocasio.
Basketball
The boys basketball team finished the regular season 8-12 and is seeded fourth in the District Championship. They will play West BrowRd High School in the opening round on Monday, February 3. The Bengals lost 66-50 in their first meeting this year, while the winner of this game will play top Western High School in the District Semifinals. Cypress Bay and J.P Taravella will also play after each team earned a bye in the opening round.
The girls basketball team earned the third seed in the District Tournament, went 9-9, and had a bye in the opening round before playing Western High School in the District Semifinals. The Wildcats are 11-9 this year, while Cypress Bay High School will face the winner of J.P. Taravella and West Broward High School.
