The fall sports season is wrapping up, with two teams remaining, while soccer season is officially underway at Piper High School.
The football team qualified for the postseason and is seeded fifth after going 6-4 this year. Their wins this season came against South Plantation, Blanche Ely, and Coral Springs High School. Boyd H. Anderson Fort Lauderdale and South Broward High School lost to Peachtree, Coconut Creek, Plantation, and Monarch High School.
Jahnard Young led the offense with 1,176 yards and 18 touchdowns. Isaiah Theresias and Nicolas Milfort Jr. have combined for seven for a Bengals team that shines on the ground. Defensively, Piper is averaging 2.4 sacks per game and has picked off 12 passes behind several college commits.
They will be playing fourth-seeded Flanagan High School in the opening round, as the Falcons went 8-2 this year. The winner of this game will play either top-seeded Southridge or Nova High School, while West Broward, South Plantation, Monarch High School, and Doral Academy all qualified.
The cross country team ran at the District Tournament, with Aaron Haddaway setting a personal best of 20:12.10 to place 75th. Wesley Akins also set a personal best and finished four spots back at 20:15.26.
The boys’ soccer team began their season and played to a 2-2 tie against Stranahan High School. Richard Jean Pierre scored both goals for Piper and finished the game with seven shots. Bilal Rami assisted on both goals before the Bengals lost 5-2 against Western High School, tied McArthur High School 0-0, and lost 1-0 against Boyd H Anderson High School. Piper went 5-4-1 last season and will play Deerfield Beach High School in their next game on Monday, November 17, at 4 p.m.
The girls’ soccer team beat McArthur High School 5-0 in their first game, starting 1-0, and then followed that up with a 7-0 win over Boyd H Anderson High School. Allyson Knowles led the way with three goals in both gamesA year ago, Piper went 14-4-2 and will also play Deerfield Beach High School on Monday, November 17 at 4 p.m.
