Roberto Cesar Montesino {BSO}
A Sunrise man with a previous sex offender conviction was arrested after a cybertip led investigators to discover he had failed to register online accounts he was using to lure an underage child.
Roberto Cesar Montesino, 51, was taken into custody on November 13 at his home near the 12000 block of Northwest 30th Street following a months-long investigation that began with a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The CyberTip flagged an online Discord chat suspected of enticement of a minor. Police say the chat took place between Montesino and a 15-year-old girl.
According to the report, the Discord conversation occurring June 28–29 included Montesino allegedly discussing gifts, affection, and “spoiling” the teen. Detectives say a photo of Montesino was sent in the chat, and the minor later provided a screenshot from the conversation.
According to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records, Montesino is a registered sexual offender who is legally required to report any new email address, internet handle, or online identifier within 48 hours.
Detectives said none of the accounts uncovered during the investigation were ever reported, which is a third-degree felony.
On November 5, a judge approved a search warrant for Montesino’s residence and electronic devices. Sunrise Police executed the warrant on November 13, made contact with Montesino, and placed him under arrest.
Upon interview, Montesino denied participating in the Discord chat and said he was unsure whether the photo in the conversation was of him. He also told detectives that most devices in the home were shared.
Montesino was booked into the Broward Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $15,000 bond.
