Coconut Creek is moving closer to the construction of the MainStreet project.
During the October 10 meeting, the commission approved the site plans David Auld of Johns Family Partners requested for 172 condominium units and an 8,779 square foot clubhouse at MainStreet at Coconut Creek.
According to the presentation by Scott Backman, the property owner’s representative, Block 15A will consist of eight four-story buildings with 16 to 24 units each, located on 7.3-acres on Wiles Road and Banks Road. Residents will have access to the development’s parks and greenways, walkways, a lake, and other recreational amenities.
Block 15A will offer extensive landscaping, trees, and parking access. According to Backman, the lowest cost for a unit would be about $450,000.
Commissioner Jeffrey Wasserman expressed concern about the cost of the units and the fact that many prospective residents, especially younger people, would struggle to pay for housing at MainStreet. “People are having a hard time buying a home today,” he said.
Commissioner Joshua Rydell said he believes in the project and is looking forward to seeing it move toward completion.
The commission also approved the 15B site plan for the private clubhouse, which will be located on a future road known as Northwest 54th Terrace. According to city information, it will be on 1.43 acres and offer a pool, fitness center, public rooms, and a lounge area.
According to the MainStreet website, the development will be Coconut Creek’s future downtown epicenter. It will be a 200-acre mixed-use development that is pedestrian-friendly, with trails, walking paths, and green spaces. There will be a large public plaza for community events, restaurants, an anchor grocery store, and retail stores.
