Piper High School had several teams competing in the postseason, with two teams recording wins, as well as several award recipients.
The baseball team won 10 games during the regular season and beat Monarch High School 7-4 in their first playoff game. The Bengals were seeded fourth and came back to win following four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Piper previously gave up three runs in the first before responding with one in the bottom half and then scoring two in the third. The Bengals went on to fall to top-seeded West Boca Raton High School in the Semifinals 4-1.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings, but the Bulls went on to score a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Piper got one back in the seventh but finished the season 11-10-1. Piper also held a Senior Night earlier this year, recognizing Demetrius Angeletos, Montrial Thomas, Khalfany Mullins, and Jan Rivera.
The flag football team also had one win in the playoffs, defeating Cypress Bay High School 6-0. The Bengals were also the fourth seed and went on to lose in the Semifinals against the top seed and eventual District Champions, Western High School, 26-0.
Piper completed their season 12-4 with seniors Makalya Condon, Morvia Stephenson, Kimyah Smith, Lexi Morel, Madison Mardsen, Aliyah McFarlane, Jayla Ellison, Elyse Grant, and Niyomi Edwards. The Benagls also had an impressive performance in the Lighting Spring Out with Jahani Chin-Seur placing second in the 100 and 400 meters, while Terrance Gillis also came in fourth in the 100 and 200 meters.
The track and field team competed at South Plantation High School in the District Championship, with the boys placing 10th. Josh Tucker led the Bengals with a fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles while Alijah McKenzie came in fifth in the 400 hurdles.
Piper had their 4 x 100 relay team place sixth with Nathan Edwards, Jordan London, Davaris Lawso,n and Terrance Gillins. The 4 x 800 relay team came in seventh with Doudley Jean Mary, Rylan Sinclair, Andre Wilson and Alijah McKenzie with Doudley Jean Mary, Rylan Sinclair, Andre Wilson and Alijah McKenzie placing eighth in the 4 x 400 relay. Giovanny Barnett finished sixth in the triple jump while Alijah McKenzie, Taylor, Sinclair, and Patrick Hylton all earned points.
The girl’s team was led by Peyton Campbell, Tashara Connell, and Jabrea Gordon on the track while Allyson Knowles, Paris Robinson, and Justye Dixon all competed.
Piper also handed out awards with Carter McCrary, Julien Hally, Davaris Lawson, Ryan Sinclair, Lexi Morel, Isabel Ocasio, and Abagail Padilla winning BCAA District Scholar Athletes. McCrary and Hally each received a scholarship, while Head Coach Quentin Short of the football team was awarded the Region’s sportsmanship award. The football team went 10-2 this year and knocked off Doral Academy in their opening playoff game before losing to West Broward High School 35-16 in the Regional Semifinals.
