The Piper High School football team had two players officially signed to play college football with St. Thomas University: Antrell McWhirtier and Jahmar Midi.
“It feels good to be committed officially,” McWhirtier said. “It’s every high school athlete’s dream, but the job isn’t done yet. Time to make a name for myself in college.
McWhirtier began playing football when he was six and competed in Virginia with the Wildcats for the first time. However, he didn’t play again until high school and competed for the Plantation Colonels along with Piper High School.
During the season, McWhirtier led the Bengals with 85 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Piper went 10-2 and beat Doral Academy 33-14 in their first playoff game before being selected to the first team in Broward County.
“St.Thomas is getting a young man who loves football, a great teammate, and a heck of a football player, “Head Coach Quentin Short said.
For college, McWhirtier says his decision was not about the school but what they are known for and the building.

“St. Thomas is building a powerhouse, and the coaches showed love throughout the whole process and showed they want me there, McWhirtier said.
McWhirter wants to improve his focus during team meetings and films, which he believes is just as crucial as part of the game of football.
Midi also attends St. Thomas University and calls it a dream come true.
“Many kids fantasize about playing college football one day, and with faith, the hard work paid off,” Midi said.
Midi started playing football when he was 8 years old and played organized football four years later with the Sunrise Hurricanes. In 12 games last year on varsity, he had 27 tackles and finished second on the team with six sacks.
Midi wanted to find a school close to home. Having already been familiar with the campus and players on the tram, he felt it was the right one for him. Coach Short says his development area focuses on technique and the weight room. St. Thomas is coming off a season in which they went 6-6.
