Piper High School had a breakout year in football and was well-represented in the All-County Championship teams.
Leading the way was Head Coach Quentin Short, who was named Co-Coach of the Year in Broward County after his team reached the Regional Semifinals. The Bengals went 9-1 in the regular season and secured the second seed in the postseason. They beat Doral Academy in their first game before falling to West Broward High School.
Julien Halley was named to the second team and rushed for 941 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jefferson Saintcuis was picked on defense and had 51 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Jhamani Chin-Suer, Jordan London, Christian Mata, Kenneth Pierre, Jaytoin Thomas, and Jackson Zajkowski were Honorable Mentions.
Short also coached in the BCAA All-Star Game, with Halley, Latron Hickson, Jordan London, Antrell McWhirter, Christian Mata, Jahmar Midi, and Jefferson Saintcius all competing as seniors. London, Hickson, Davaris Lawson, and Short all helped Broward County win 17-15 in the Broward vs Dade All-Star Game.
Piper also named Dannette Gonzalez an Honorable Mention after she completed a terrific season on the girls’ volleyball team. They ended the season 11-6. Gonzalez led the team in digs with 249 and finished third in kills with 77.
