
Piper High School Boys Volleyball. {Bengal Broadcast}
Piper High School wrapped up spring sports, highlighted by the recognition of its seniors and the postseason.
The baseball team closed out the regular season with an impressive victory over Coral Glades and followed that performance with a narrow 6-5 win over School House Prep before dropping their final three games of the regular season.
However, they went on to be seeded fifth at the District Tournament and beat Fort Lauderdale High School 12-2 after scoring at least one run in all six innings. Josepsh Cuminale led the offense with three RBIS while Austin Engle and Beckett Noll each drove in two. Tommy Velez, Landon McKenzie, and Ruddy Santiago all drove in one, with McKenzie tossing four shutout innings. However, their season ended following an 11-0 loss to Coral Springs High School.
The softball team finished the regular season with senior night for Isabella Rodriguez. They had their wins earlier in the year, defeating Blanche Ely High School 11-10, and also won by forfeit over Boyd H. Anderson High School. They have currently lost eight in a row and will play Nova High School in the final game of the regular season on Tuesday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m.
The flag football team continued its strong season, outscoring opponents 117-0 in its final four games, defeating Deerfield Beach High School (20-0), Plantation High School (27-0), Cooper City High School (32-0), and Fort Lauderdale High School (38-0). They also recognized their seniors, Sophonie Gedeon, Victoria Zevallos, and Makylah Magnus. In the District tournament, the Bengals were seeded fourth and beat Coral Glades 18-6 in their first playoff game, then lost 32-12 to Western High School.
The boys’ volleyball team had their only win by forfeit earlier this year, but knocked off Boyd H. Anderson High School on March 30. Prior to that, Piper took a set off of Miramar High School but sit at 2-14. Their seniors are Mekhi McLemore and Djaleel Descombes, as they were seeded sixth at Regionals and lost 22-35, 14-25,15-25 to J.P. Taravella.
The track and field team continues to shine, beginning at the BCAA championship at Dillard High School, where Josh Tucker placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles. The boys also had two relay teams compete, finishing 12th and 13th overall. On the girls’ side, two relay teams competed, with the 4×400 relay placing fifth and the 4×100 relay finishing sixth.
At the District Tournament, Tucker took first place in the 110 hurdles while Chin-Suer and Barnett each came in second place in the 400 meters and triple jump. Jonah Julien and Ledger St. Rose followed in fifth and sixth place, while two relay teams placed in the top six, highlighted by the 4 x 100 relay taking fourth with Jayden Charles, Dantae Redwood, Janmani Chin-Suer, and Tucker. The girls’ team was led by Samayah Louidor, coming in third in the 400 meters, while they had two relay teams placed fifth and sixth, with the quartet of Kortnie Johnson, Samyah Louidor, Khadeejah Garwood, and Sayge Josiah.
At Regionals, Chin-Suer placed fourth in the 400 meters before placing 18th at the State. Tucker placed fifth in the 110 hurdles in both regionals and states, while the girls had two relay teams place 11th in Regionals.
