
Piper High School Girls Basketball. {Bengal Broadcast}
Piper High School’s winter sports teams delivered memorable performances across soccer and basketball, highlighted by senior night and postseason games.
The boys’ soccer team played a thrilling match but fell in penalty kicks to Boyd H. Anderson High School in the District Semifinals. The Bengals finished the season with an 8-6-5 record and entered the district tournament as the No. 5 seed.
This year’s squad featured a large senior class, including Eric Calderon, Klaas Brisseau, David Santos, Judley Poitevien, Dudley Cadet, Fritz Duclosy, Richard Jean-Pierre, Djaleel Descombes, Jorge Alvarado, Nathan Bonilla, Clive Bienestin, Otavio Camargo Costa, Dominic Dunkley, and Malachi Smith.
The girls’ soccer team advanced to the District Semifinals after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Coral Springs High School. Allyson Knowles scored three goals in the win, bringing her season total to 32 goals, while Melody Dulamotte added a goal on a penalty kick.
The Bengals’ season came to an end with a 4-1 loss to Fort Lauderdale High School in the championship game. Knowles, who finished the season with 32 goals, ranking 54th nationally and 15th in Florida, will graduate this year align with joined by Naveah Dirusso, Kayla Gaynor, and Dia Mazurkiewicz
In basketball, the boys team closed the regular season with three straight wins, defeating Hollywood Hills High School by a score of 72-59, Marjory Stoneman Douglas 63-58, and Blanche Ely High School 65-54. Seniors Julian Samaroo, Maeravious Sands, Jakari Smith, Jeremiah Escoffrey, and LaDanian McKenzie were recognized for their contributions.
The Bengals entered the District Tournament as the fifth seed, but were knocked out by J.P. Taravella 63-59. Piper trailed by only one at the end of the first quarter and by two at halftime, but scored only 13 points in the third and fell by four as the Traojans advanced to play Cypress Bay High School, while Western and West Broward High School played in the other semifinal game.
The girls’ basketball team, which has no seniors, defeated J.P. Taravella 50-13 earlier in the week but fell to Marjory Stoneman Douglas 64-37 and Blanche Ely High School 73-20, finishing the season with a 10-9 record. The Bengals are the No. 3 seed in regionals and received a first-round bye.
They will face Cypress Bay High School, which also earned a bye, after the Lightning finished the season 9-5. Western High School is the top seed and will play the winner of West Broward High School and J.P. Taravella in the other Semifinal.
