A dispute between two siblings over a television turned violent, leading to the arrest of a man following a short standoff with police.
On September 1, the Margate Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call between two siblings, one of whom had reportedly suffered serious injuries due to an assault.
According to the report, the two siblings, one later arrested and identified as Elliott Andrew, 27, of Margate, began arguing over moving a television set from one room to another.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to a victim who told officers the dispute escalated quickly, to the point that Andrew allegedly struck the victim forcefully in the back of her head.
Attempting to flee the altercation, the victim told officers she ran downstairs and eventually outside, but her brother chased her while shouting angrily. Fearing for her safety, the victim called 911.
According to the victim, Andrew grabbed a stone and began chasing her, then snatched her phone, disconnecting her emergency call. The victim said she later regained possession of her phone and dialed 911.
While waiting for law enforcement, the victim said Andrew pushed her into the front of a vehicle parked in the driveway. Witnesses report that he used both fists to repeatedly strike the victim in the face and body.
Until officers arrived, he reportedly continued his assault by wrapping his right arm around the victim’s neck, causing her to struggle to breathe while at the same time gouging at her eyes.
The victim’s mother was able to intervene, but law enforcement found him in a heated verbal dispute with her in the walkway to their residence, still holding a stone.
Upon seeing officers on the scene, Andrew retreated inside the house and refused to exit the residence voluntarily. After some time, he eventually came outside and was taken into custody without further incident.
Andrew was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. Upon booking, it was revealed that he was out on bond for unrelated domestic violence charges at the time of the crime.
