A Burger King employee at Sawgrass Mills suffered a broken tooth and facial injuries after a man, reportedly there for a job interview, allegedly threw a metal object during a dispute.
According to a Sunrise Police Department arrest report, Ralph Junior Estinord, 28, of Lauderhill, was arrested April 6 and charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability following an incident that occurred at a Burger King located inside Sawgrass Mills Mall.
Records show officers responded to reports of an employee being struck in the face with a metal object. According to the arrest affidavit, Estinord entered the restaurant, claiming he had an interview, but became upset after being told that a manager was not available. Investigators say the situation escalated into a verbal dispute between Estinord and the employee.
Police say Estinord threw items, including straws, at the worker before the confrontation turned physical. The victim told officers she threw a plastic cup in response, after which Estinord allegedly grabbed a metal object and threw it at her face.
The impact caused a large laceration to the victim’s lip and knocked out one of her teeth, according to the report. Responding officers noted visible injuries, including bleeding from the victim’s mouth.
After the incident, Estinord was reported to have fled the area on a Broward County Transit bus. Officers later located and detained him near the 10200 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard.
During questioning, Estinord admitted to throwing objects during the altercation.
Estinord was transported to the Broward Main Jail, where he is being held pending further court proceedings.
