North Broward Prep officially signed three student-athletes to play in college next year, and a coach was inducted into the hall of fame.
The Eagles had three baseball players sign with Kiernan O’Neil, Max Burkholz, and Max Maldof. O’Neil, who began his high school career at Coral Springs Charter, signed with the University of Central Florida. The senior led the team with a .421 batting average, 12 extra-base hits, and nine RBIs. He also pitched in 12 games and had an ERA of 1.40, helping the Eagles win their third State Championship in four years.
Max Burkholz signed with Bryant University and finished fifth on the team with a .365 batting average, knocking in 13 runs. He also pitched and recorded a win in four games and an era of 1.70 last year.
Aidan Maldof is signed with Drew University and had limited playing time last year, but he did drive an RBi hit in one of his three plate appearances.
Alexa Schwartz from the track and field team also signed with Florida State University. She is a former State Champion in the discus and a star on the basketball court, recently scoring 1,000 career points.
All four of these players will have the chance to play their respective sport for one more year before going on to play while coach Brian Campbell has officially been inducted into the High School Baseball Network Hall of Fame.
He has helped lead the Eagles to become one of the top teams in the state and has won three State Titles in the last four years. Campbell has had dozens of players move on to play college baseball, while several have made it to the MLB.
Campbell said he was humbled and honored to be nominated by my peers for the honor and grateful to HSBN, but he feels many people deserve more credit.
“Our school and athletic administration has been incredible,” Campbell said. “All my coaches are not only great teachers but great men as well, and they deserve recognition. I’m also proud of all the players that have played for me throughout the years.”
NBP will begin their baseball season on March 7 against American Heritage High School.
