Man Caught on Ring Camera Stalking Former Piper High Classmate He Called His “Soulmate”

A Tamarac man was arrested after Sunrise police said he stalked a former Piper High School classmate for years, repeatedly contacting her online and later showing up at her home in violation of a court injunction, claiming she was his “soulmate.”

According to a Sunrise Police Department report, Claudy Poteau, 27, was taken into custody on January 13 and charged with stalking and aggravated stalking after an injunction for protection.

Police said the victim and Poteau knew each other from attending Piper High School but had no relationship after graduation. Investigators said the woman reported that Poteau began repeatedly attempting to pursue a romantic relationship with her through social media, despite her repeated refusals.

Court records show the victim obtained an Injunction for Protection Against Stalking in October 2025, which banned Poteau from contacting her or coming within 500 feet of her home. Despite the order, police said Poteau arrived at the woman’s home on January 12.

The victim reported seeing him through her Ring doorbell camera, standing at her front door, pacing and repeatedly ringing the doorbell. Officers reviewed the footage, which helped positively identify Poteau.

When questioned by police the following day, Poteau admitted knowing the victim and said he had been infatuated with her since high school. Investigators wrote that he told officers he believed the woman was his “soulmate” and acknowledged repeatedly trying to pursue a romantic relationship over the years, even though she continued to refuse his advances.

Police said Poteau also admitted to locating the victim’s home address through an online search and confirmed that he went to her residence.

Poteau was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
