Sunrise Police have made an arrest nearly a year and a half after a man was shot in both arms following a confrontation inside and outside a billiards hall in Lauderhill.
Sunrise police announced on January 21 that Shane Ball, 36, of Sunrise, was arrested and charged with one count of premeditated attempted murder in connection with a July 2024 shooting that led to a slew of 911 calls and a victim hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators said the incident began on the night of July 14, when the victim stopped at Classic Billiards, located at 4569 North University Drive, after work. The victim told police he had no disputes with anyone inside the bar and was sitting quietly when Ball began acting erratically, loudly boasting that he had “caught 35 bodies,” a slang term commonly used to claim involvement in multiple killings.
According to the arrest report, the victim and another patron asked Ball to calm down, but Ball continued ranting before stepping outside. Other patrons later told police that Ball had shown people in the bar a firearm earlier in the evening.
Witnesses told police Ball eventually returned to the bar, removed a gun from his waistband, cocked it, and continued yelling at patrons before leaving in a dark-colored vehicle.
Roughly 20 minutes later, as the victim was driving home, investigators said Ball’s vehicle cut in front of him and intentionally collided with his front bumper. Police said Ball then fired multiple shots into the victim’s car, striking him in both arms.
The victim lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a light pole near the 2400 block of Pine Island Road.
Sunrise police said they identified Ball through a combination of surveillance video from the billiard hall, license plate reader data, credit card receipts, and multiple eyewitness identifications.
Witnesses told investigators they had seen Ball at the bar on prior occasions and described him as generally friendly, but said he appeared intoxicated that night after drinking Hennessy mixed with Red Bull.
When questioned about his firearm, Ball told investigators, “If I do something like that or pull out my gun like that, I’m letting you know I’m gonna spank you,” police wrote. He also said he displayed a weapon as his response when someone was “talking s—” or making him “feel some type of way,” often leading him to challenge others to “come outside.”
Police said they ultimately recovered two handguns from Ball, along with three spent shell casings from his vehicle. Forensic testing confirmed that a projectile recovered from the crime scene was fired from one of Ball’s guns.
Court records also show a January 2022 incident in which Ball was investigated for alleged threats involving a church congregation, leading law enforcement to temporarily seize his firearms. Records show that during that case, a BSO deputy responded to a stalking, harassment, and threat complaint in Pompano Beach after Ball allegedly told another member of the Living Church of God that he planned to “shoot up” the congregation because he believed they had placed a “hex” on him.
Police placed Ball into protective custody following the incident and seized his firearms, which were later returned to him in 2023 after the order expired. The returned firearms are described as the same ones used in this recent shooting.
Ball was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is held without bond.
