
Piper High School Girls Soccer Team. {Bengal Broadcast}
Piper’s winter sports teams head into the new year with momentum across the board, highlighted by a strong basketball player, a historic start for one soccer player, and two college baseball signees.
Boys Basketball
The boys basketball team rebounded impressively after a 0–3 start to the season, rattling off four consecutive wins against Deerfield Beach, Coconut Creek, Pompano Beach, and South Broward High School. The Bengals now sit at 5–5 heading into the new year following a 75–65 victory over McArthur High School.
Isaiah Monestime leads the team in scoring, with LaDanian McKenzie and Jeremiah Marson also ranking among the team’s top three scorers. Piper returns to action on January 8 at 7:30 p.m. against Monarch High School. The Knights enter the matchup with a 5–4 record.
Girls Basketball
The girls’ basketball team has enjoyed a strong start to the season, opening with six straight wins. During that stretch, the Bengals earned convincing victories over South Plantation, Fort Lauderdale, Cooper City, Deerfield Beach, Coconut Creek, and Pompano Beach High School.
After splitting their next four games, Piper added wins over Coral Glades and West Broward High School. Janiya Joassin leads the team in scoring. The Bengals will face Hallandale High School on January 13 at 6 p.m. The Chargers currently hold a 1–8 record.
Boys Soccer
The boys’ soccer team holds a 5–5–4 record after overcoming a slow start. The Bengals went winless in their first four matches before earning their first victory in a thrilling 5–4 win over Hollywood Hills High School.
Piper also defeated Pompano Beach by the same score and recorded four-goal victories over Hallandale and Blanche Ely. One win came by forfeit. Richard Jean-Pierre leads the team with 10 goals, while Fritz Duclosy has also contributed offensively, and Kervens Athis has added five goals. Eight different players have scored this season, and goalkeeper Klaas Brisseau has been outstanding with 121 saves.
The Bengals open the new year against Nova High School on January 6 at 4 p.m. The Titans have one tie and nine losses this season.
Girls Soccer
The girls’ soccer team enters the new year with a 6–5–1 record after a 2–2 draw against Coral Springs High School in its most recent match. The Bengals opened the season with back-to-back shutout wins over McArthur and Boyd H. Anderson High School, outscoring their opponents 12–0.
Piper has also earned victories over Deerfield Beach, Hallandale, J.P. Taravella, and Blanche Ely. Allyson Knowles is having a historic season, scoring 20 goals in 12 games. Madison Delamotte has added nine goals and five assists, while Naveah Dirusso and Melody Delamotte have both performed well in goal. The girls will also face Nova High School on January 6 at 4 p.m. The Titans are winless through their first six matches.
Cheerleading
The cheerleading team also began the season and, despite not placing in the District Meet, will compete again in Regionals on January 9.
Baseball
Joel Arroyo and Valentino Pupo of Piper High School have each officially signed to play college baseball at Vernon University. Arroyo hit. 333 this past season, as the Bengals won 11 games and made it to the postseason. He also homered three times to lead the team and drove in seven runs, while Pupo hit. 434 with seven extra base hits and five RBIs. They will each have one more year with Piper, before going on to compete for a college team that recently had 31 wins in a season.
