Dominic Santana is an outstanding sophomore at J.P. Taravella High School.
A clarinet player in the marching band, he began by participating at Margate Middle School.
“I love being in the band because it is like being in a family.” He told Margate Talk that he has many friends in the band and enjoys playing music.
A resident of Margate, Santana, 16, has a 5.3 grade point average and is 5th in his class of about 640 sophomores. He takes AP calculus and hopes to continue taking high-level mathematics classes. He is also the vice president of leadership in the DECA club and vice president of the BRACE club.
A strong interest in helping others led Santana to become president of the Hear and Connect club. The club raises money to provide hearing aids and accessories to individuals who need them and, recently, provided a recipient with a wheelchair.
Santana said, “If I can help other people, I will do so.”
According to band director Jonathon Cooper, Santana is an accomplished student and an essential part of the marching band.
