A man allegedly used his Nissan van to purposely ram the back of a Prius and push the car forward during a road rage incident in Coral Springs, police said.
Magin Caceres, 39, of Pompano Beach, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on April 10 after ramming the victim’s car at Northwest 85th Avenue and West Sample Road around 1:50 p.m., according to an arrest report filed by Coral Springs Police.
The male victim said he was driving his yellow Prius on West Sample Road near Riverside Drive when he spotted the white Nissan van driven by Caceres. The soon-to-be rammer was straddling two lanes, leading the victim to honk his horn, the report states.
In response Caceres suddenly hit the brakes, according to witnesses. The victim then drove his car around the van and turned left on Northwest 85th Avenue, hoping to get away from Caceres, according to the report.
Police said Caceres, in pursuit, turned as well. He then intentionally rammed the front of the van into the back of the Prius, accelerating as he pushed the car forward on the road, the report states. The Prius soon stalled as a result of being pushed.
Police said Caceres drove around the car, then turned the van around and drove off in the other direction, according to the report.
In an effort to stop Caceres from evading law enforcement, the victim – his Prius again running – followed the van at a distance and called Coral Springs Police, the report states. Caceres kept driving west until he crashed the van in the Everglades at West Sample Road and the Sawgrass Expressway, police said.
Police arrested Caceres at the scene. Two witnesses later confirmed the victim’s account, the report states.
Caceres was booked into the Broward Main Jail and released on a $10,000 bond, according to court records.
