The Forest Glen Middle School Symphonic Band received a superior rating at the Music Performance Assessment held on March 19 at Monarch High School.
Band director Jennifer Perez was deeply moved by the band’s journey to this achievement and the students’ unwavering commitment. This superior rating marks a significant milestone, being the first in four years, and is a testament to their dedication and hard work.
“The students worked hard in practice. We had extra practice sessions, and the students were motivated to perform well,” said Perez.
Perez was impressed by how dedicated the band students were and how they committed to learning the music. The band performed three songs and performed a sight-reading exercise. Daniel Bonilla-Luna earned a superior for student conducting.
“They learned to work together and perform the songs well,” she said.
Perez hopes to continue developing the band to achieve even more success in the coming years.
The band members are proud of their work. Jackson Sankey, an eighth grader who plays the tuba, loves being in the band. “I like being part of the group. We can accomplish great things if we work together. I like to perform music, and I will be in the marching band next year at Coral Springs High School,” he said.
Rafaella Barros plays percussion and has enjoyed being in the band. “My favorite part is attending events; I like being in the program. It felt good to get a superior rating at MPA,” she said.
Next, the band members prepare for a solo and ensemble competition at Ramblewood Middle School on April 26 and 27. The band and chorus members will perform at Disney Springs and then go to EPCOT on May 30 – 31.
