Makia Shakeena Jackson {BSO}
A mother faces felony child abuse charges after police say she attacked and pepper-sprayed multiple minors following an alleged dispute the victims had with her daughter.
According to a Sunrise Police Department arrest report, Makia Shakeena Jackson, 30, of Lauderdale Lakes, was taken into custody on March 4 following an altercation near 5001 North Pine Island Road, which is the address of a Mobil gas station located across the street from Banyan Elementary School.
Police said officers responded to the area after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting an altercation involving several juveniles. Investigators learned that two juveniles had walked toward the location when Jackson and another juvenile, identified as her daughter, exited a black SUV and confronted them about a prior dispute involving Jackson’s daughter.
According to the affidavit, one of the juveniles attempted to de-escalate the situation and advised the other to call their mother. As the juveniles began walking away, Jackson allegedly continued yelling toward one of them, calling one of them a “faggot” repeatedly, according to police.
Authorities say the argument escalated when Jackson’s daughter approached one of the juveniles aggressively, leading to a physical fight. During the altercation, investigators say Jackson grabbed one of the juveniles by the hair and struck the child multiple times in the head.
Police say the fight continued until the individuals were briefly separated. Jackson then allegedly retrieved a can of pepper spray from her vehicle and sprayed the juvenile victims directly in the face before leaving the scene with her daughter.
Investigators later obtained video footage of the incident and photographed the vehicle’s license plate as it left the area. Police said the vehicle was registered to Jackson, and a school resource officer who had encountered her the previous day positively identified her.
Jackson was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
