4 Wrestling Teams From Coral Springs Compete in BCAA Tournament

Four schools from Coral Springs represented in the BCAA Championship this weekend at Fort Lauderdale High School.

Coral Springs High School

The Coral Springs High School wrestling team had five wrestlers’ place. Shai Keery and Bendjy Ferdinand came in fifth. Jaylan Brown and Sebastian Bolt finished sixth, while Chase Martin came seventh.

James Matis, Adam Shuker, Jason Jackson, Tyler Green, Jaylan Brown, Dante Adams, Jamie Capricien, and J’vier Romeus competed for the Colts.

Coral Springs Charter

Peter Mocco and Keon Taylor led Coral Springs Charter. Both wrestlers finished in second place after winning seven matches. Preston Lindsay finished 3-2 and came in fourth. Hunter Perez, who did not place last year in the BCAA Championship, won three matches to bring his total to 38 on the season.

The Panthers also got a pair of wins from Owyn Vargas and one from Simon Sanchez. Colston Geiger and Brandon Hankerson also competed in two matches for CSC to help them finish 13th as a team. Former CSC wrestler, Michael Mocco, took first place and won the most outstanding wrestler.

“The team did phenomenally,” said Head Coach Eric Perez. “It was Hunter’s first time placing in the tournament. Preston and Keon battled extremely tough, and for Peter Mocco, a 7th grader, to make the finals just made me so happy to see.”

Coral Glades

Despite a late start to the season, Carlos Garcia Ruiz shined and finished in fourth place after winning three matches for Coral Glades. Isaiah Josiah Francois also won and competed with Ian Pridgen, Anthony Perez, Jason Edwards, and Landon Hall wrestling.

“Carlos fought hard this weekend. He still has a lot of work to do, said Head Coach Cam Thomas. He definitely will be a force to be reckoned with in District and Regionals.”

J.P. Taravella

Jacob Rosen and Tariq Qaiyim finished in fifth place for J.P. Taravella. They each Went 5-2, while Chris Cenoble finished in seventh after going 4-3. Abraham Ballesteros and Victor Dion both went 3-2. Damian Morales won one match, while Caiden Canales and Giovanni Perez competed in two matches.

“The team is making serious strides that will put them in contention to have multiple district champions,” said Head Coach Stephane Villard.
