With the fall season coming to a close, Piper High School had three teams in action.
The football team continued their success, winning for the fourth straight week as they knocked off Fort Lauderdale High School 38-17. The Bengals scored 21 points in the first quarter and jumped out to a 31-3 lead at halftime. They added one more touchdown in the third with Jahnard Young finding the end zone twice. Nicholas Milfort Jr. also scored as the two running backs combined for 190 rushing yards. Alex Gammage and Jaytoin Thomas also added touchdowns, with Kenneth Pierre recording a sack and four tackles in the game.
Piper is 5-3 heading into their bye week and will play for a District Title on October 24 against Monarch High School at 7 p.m. The Knights are 4-3 this year and have played one of the most demanding schedules in the state. They won 22-20 in the lone matchup a season ago.
The girls’ volleyball team completed its final week of regular-season games, which highlighted Senior Night. The Bengals beat Miramar High School 25-16, 25-11, 25-19, but dropped their final home match 25-18, 26-24,25-21. Their seniors featured Brooke Coutain, Avani Medina, Jayana Del Re, and Twaniah Clinton, with Del Re leading the team with six kills.
Isabella Delgado had five aces while Brooke Couutain had a block. Auria Paul recorded 10 assists with Meldoy Delamotte and Del Re combining for 30 digs. Piper heads to the District Tournament with a record of 10-11 and will play Spanish River Community High School in the opening round as they look to continue their season.
The Bengals are seeded sixth, while the Sharks went 12-13 this year. The winner of this game will play either Boca Raton or Coral Glades, while Marjory Stoneman Douglas is the top seed and will face either J.P. Taravella or Monarch High School.
The boys ‘ cross-country team raced at Quiet Waters Park and came in fourth as a team. Aaron Haddoway placed 11th overall with a time of 20:13.5, while Timothy Hollis, Tyriq King, and Wesley Akins all placed in the top 18. Elijah Toussaint also ran for the Bengals as they gear up for the postseason.
