Piper High School Girls Soccer Team. {Bengal Broadcast}
Piper High School had a busy week of athletics, highlighted by senior recognition nights for both the boys and girls soccer teams.
The boys’ soccer team honored seniors Eric Calderon, Klaas Brisseau, David Santos, Judley Poitevien, Dudeley Cadet, Fritz Duclosy, Richard Jean-Pierre, Djaleel Descombes, Jorge Alvarado, Nathan Bonilla, Clive Bienestin, Otavio Camargo Costa, Dominic Dunkley, and Malachi Smith.
The Bengals opened the week with a 3–1 victory over Miramar High School. Fritz Duclosy recorded a goal and an assist, while Kevin Athis also added a goal and an assist. Richard Jean-Pierre scored as well, and goalkeeper Savas Kaya made 11 saves while allowing just one goal.
Piper followed with another 3–1 win against Cooper City High School. Jean-Pierre scored twice, Djaleel Descombes added a goal, and Dudeley Cadet and Otavio Camargo Costa each registered assists. Klaas Brisseau was in goal and made nine saves.
The week concluded with a 1–1 tie against Plantation High School. The Bengals enter the District Tournament with an 8–5–1 record and will be the fifth seed, facing Boyd H. Anderson High School on Wednesday, January 21, at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to play Monarch High School, while Deerfield Beach High School also has a bye and will face either Fort Lauderdale or Coral Springs High School in the semifinals.
The girls’ soccer team recognized seniors Allyson Knowles, Naveah Dirusso, Kayla Gaynor, and Dia Mazurkiewicz. They opened the week with a dominant 7–2 victory over Miramar High School, led by Knowles, who scored four goals. Dirusso and Melody Delamotte also found the back of the net.
In their regular-season finale, Piper fell 9–1 to Cooper City High School. Knowles scored the Bengals’ lone goal off an assist from Delamotte, while Dirusso made 17 saves in goal. The Bengals finished the regular season 7–8–1 and earned the fourth seed in the upcoming district championship. Piper will play on Thursday, January 22, at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to face Fort Lauderdale High School. Monarch High School has a bye and will face either Deerfield Beach or Boyd H. Anderson High School.
The boys’ basketball team dropped games to Coral Springs High School 67–45 and Cardinal Gibbons High School 67-26. Piper will next face Plantation High School on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m. Plantation enters the matchup with a 14–4 record and defeated Piper 73–51 last season.
The girls’ basketball team also fell to Coral Springs High School 55–24 before losing on the road to Cardinal Gibbons High School 54–20. The Bengals will take on Plantation High School on Tuesday, January 20 at 6 p.m. The Colonels are 1–9 this season, with their lone win coming against Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School.
The wrestling team honored its seniors and competed against Marjory Stoneman Douglas as the program prepares for the postseason.
