Osmow’s Mediterranean at Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise was ordered shut down on March 17 after inspectors found live roaches in food preparation areas, utensils, and kitchen storage spaces.
According to a March 17 inspection report, Osmow’s Mediterranean restaurant was ordered closed after accumulating five violations, including multiple instances of live and dead roaches throughout the kitchen.
Inspectors documented several live roaches in areas used for food handling, including on a shelf above the kitchen’s triple sink, inside a storage container holding measuring cups and utensils on that same shelf, inside cutting gloves, and on a cart next to cooking oil and containers of chicken base.
The report also detailed a significant presence of dead roaches on the premises. Inspectors reported viewing dead roaches inside a storage container on a shelf above the triple sink and on the shelf itself.
Roach activity in food preparation and storage areas poses a serious health risk, as it can contaminate food, surfaces, and utensils. State records show the restaurant was ordered shut immediately following the inspection.
Osmow’s was ordered to address the violations and pass a follow-up inspection before reopening.
