A Margate man faces kidnapping and domestic battery charges after allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend captive.
According to arrest records, on May 26, the Margate Police Department responded to a domestic violence and alleged kidnapping call in which the victim claimed she had recently escaped from being held captive by her boyfriend, later identified as Jermaine Oliver Jackson, 39, of Margate.
The victim told officers the conflict began as a verbal argument over evening plans, and the situation quickly deteriorated when the victim attempted to call her brother for assistance.
According to MPD records, the victim alleged that Jackson forcibly took her phone and aggressively pulled her into the main bedroom. The victim said as she struggled to free herself, she attempted to use the Siri voice command feature on her phone to redial her brother, which angered Jackson, who responded by grabbing her face and squeezing her cheeks against her teeth, causing abrasions inside her mouth.
MPD records show the victim told officers she continued to attempt to escape as Jackson escalated the violence. She claimed he “bear-hugged” her, lifting her off the ground, and threw her onto the bed, covering her mouth and nose, restricting her breathing, and causing her to gasp for air.
Throughout the ordeal, the victim recounted to MPD how she repeatedly pleaded with Jackson to let her leave, but he physically restrained her each time she tried to escape. She told officers she eventually ceased resisting out of fear due to Jackson’s threats to harm her family.
Records show the victim told officers that at approximately 1:00 a.m., Jackson went to the bathroom, giving her a brief opportunity to flee the residence and call 911.
Jackson was later taken into custody by MPD and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
