The Peoria Chiefs were recognized during the June 5 commission meeting for winning the Margate Youth Baseball 8-year-old and under championship.
Mayor Tommy Ruzzano, an assistant coach for the team, called the players wearing their uniforms to the front of the chambers and handed each player an award.
He also shared the accomplishments of each player.
Most of the parents attended and enjoyed spending time together and remembering the season.
Coach Mike Hutcheson was proud of the team. “This was awesome. Our team really came together, and the players improved and did well. I hope they continue playing,” he said.
The team had an 8-2 record and won two postseason games.
