As Coral Springs, Florida, hits the significant milestone of its 60th anniversary, it is an opportune moment to step back and appreciate this vibrant city’s journey and evolution.
While Coral Springs Talk has only covered 12 of those 60 years, we’ve learned a lot with the 7,500 articles we’ve written. Established in 1963 by Coral Ridge Properties, a division of Westinghouse, Coral Springs began as a master-planned community, a pioneering concept then.
As a testament to meticulous planning and vision, the city was touted as “the city in the country.” This innovative spirit has been the driving force behind Coral Springs’ evolution into the dynamic city residents know today.
A real estate boom marked the early years of Coral Springs. The city was marketed as a haven for the northerners seeking respite from cold winters, good year-round warmth, and sunshine. The city’s population increased tenfold within its first decade, solidifying its reputation as a desirable place to live.
In the subsequent decades, Coral Springs witnessed exponential growth, both demographically and economically. The 1980s and 1990s brought about major development projects, including the Coral Square Mall and the Coral Springs Medical Center – now Broward Health Coral Springs. These establishments boosted the local economy, created job opportunities, and provided enhanced services to the city’s residents.
The city has always prioritized education and proudly hosts some of the highest-rated schools in the Broward County Public School system. The city’s dedication to cultivating a learning environment has paid off, with numerous students excelling academically and athletically at both state and national levels.

Coral Springs has been recognized for its commitment to the arts. The Coral Springs Center for the Arts opened in 1990 and has become an epicenter of culture and creativity, hosting numerous concerts, theater productions, and art exhibitions. The city’s art walk project and public art installations reflect its dedication to enhancing the community’s cultural fabric.
In the 60 years since its inception, Coral Springs has faced several challenges, including Hurricane Wilma in 2005. However, the city’s resilient spirit has always prevailed, ensuring the community’s swift recovery and continued growth. This resilience is etched into the city’s DNA, instilled by its founders, and nurtured by its residents.
The city’s motto, “Everything Under the Sun,” encapsulates the essence of Coral Springs. It has something for everyone: thriving businesses, excellent schools, recreational facilities, rich culture, and an engaged community.
