While three teams from Coral Springs won District Championships, over a dozen other squads competed, and one school held a memorable senior night for two players.
Before the Coral Glades flag football teams game against J.P. Taravella, the Jaguars honored Hailey Stein, who was also a guest speaker at the 36th annual Scholar Banquet and Jada Nicholson before the team advanced to the District Quarterfinal.
Both players have played four years on the varsity team. Coral Glades fell to Piper High School in the Quarterfinals and finished the season with a record of 1-4-2.
The Jaguars beat West Broward High School for their only win in the regular season, while Coral Springs High School went 2-5 this year and lost to Blanche Ely High School in the postseason. All three schools also had their lacrosse teams either lose in the District Tournament or did not qualify.
For J.P. Taravella softball, they finished the season 0-5-1, while Coral Springs High School was 2-4. They had wins against the Trojans and Hallandale before falling against Blanche Ely High School in the postseason.
The CSC baseball team beat St. John Paul II Academy 1-0 behind a complete game shutout from David Austen. He did not allow a hit until the seventh inning and struck out nine. Ethan Wells knocked in the only run in the bottom of the sixth. They lost in the District Semifinals against the reigning two-time State Champions in North Broward Prep and then fell again in Regionals against St. John Paul II Academy.
The Coral Glades baseball team dropped a heartbreaker against Western High School. After the game was scoreless heading into extra innings, the Jaguars scored two runs in the top of the eight. However, they allowed three runs in the bottom half and fell 3-2 to finish the season at 11-10.
The CSHS baseball team rallied back to defeat Olympic Heights Community High School with five runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a three-run double from Daniel Aneja in their opening District playoff game. They went on to fall to West Boca Raton Community High School and finished the season with a record of 13-10.
The J.P. Taravella baseball team fell 11-4 against Western High School in the District Semifinals but beat them in Regionals 5-1. J.C. Martinez hit a first-inning three-run home run to lead the Trojans to the win. They will face Marjory Stoneman Douglas again in the Regional Semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m
In softball, J.P. Taravella beat Coral Springs High School 16-1. They fell in the District Semifinals against Western and finished the season with a record of 7-8.
The Coral Glades softball teams fell against Marjory Stoneman Douglas after having a bye in the opening round. The Jaguars finished at 10-10, with Shelby Stephens knocking in both runs. After the Jaguars allowed four runs in the first innings, Haleigh Thomas pitched 5.1 scoreless innings in relief, striking out nine. They are the eighth seed in the Region and will play Park Vista in the Regional Quarterfinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter softball won 12-0 in their opening Regional Playoff Game against Samson Everglades behind a no-hitter from Sophia Bertorelli and Courtney Wahlbrink. They also moved to 41-0-2 behind two RBIs from Kate Maston and Heather Robertson. Addison Michel, Bella Bertorelli, Stephanie Basso, Jessica Sacca and Kiana Gutierrez had RBIs. They will play Westminster Christian Academy in the Semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
After winning a District Championship in volleyball, the Coral Glades boys volleyball team lost to Boca Raton Community High School in three sets to finish the season 8-7. Coral Springs High School and Coral Springs Charter lost in the District Semifinals, while J.P. Taravella lost in the District Final.
In track and field, JPT had 18 students advance to Regionals. Both Alexandra Bruno and Adriana Harris advanced from Coral Springs Charter. Jeffrey Beliezaire, Owen Kaye, Leighton Peart, Wilkens Dorce Darnell Charite Trinity Duqueste, Josefine Majdoch, and the 4 x 100 relay team of Michelle Poiter, Jaylyn Samuels, Shaquilea Alvaranga, and Niecy Brown all shined for Coral Springs High School. Coral Glades’ top results came from Tyler Monroe, Damone Taylor, and Zion Tomlin.
