Coral Springs High School continues to enjoy success in every sport, highlighted by the boys basketball team making the final of the Kruel Classic.
The boys basketball team won their first two games of the Kruel Classic, defeating Peachtree High School (Georgia) 69-41 behind 22 points from James Salusby. Alex Pierre Louis and Walter Pierre Louis combined for 25, while Romae Brown added 11. The Colts then beat Albany Academy (New York) 49-33. Matthew Curprew-Elsy led the team in points before falling 77-63 against Lexington Catholic (Kentucky) in the final.
CSHS then competed in two games in the Legacy Showcase and won in Paideia and Valdosta High School.
“I am super happy with the way we play in the Sunshine State Explosion, ” Head Coach Devin Barta said. “We got to battle two good teams from Georgia and played very well. Seems like we are gelling at the right time heading into the new year.”
The Colts are now 10-3 and will face South Broward High School in their next game on January 8. The Bulldogs are 3-6 this year with wins over Flanagan, Nova, and McArthur High School but lost 95-66 in their only meeting last year
The girls basketball team came into their game having won six of their first seven games but fell to an undefeated Somerset Prep team, 77-41. They will resume play on Monday, January 8, against Sough Broward High School before their big matchup against Coral Glades the following day.
On the soccer field, the boys team lost 1-0 on Monday against South Plantation High School, while the girls team played to a 1-1 draw, with Andrea Orjuela scoring on an assist from Stephanie Calcano. The boys lost 3-0 against Deerfield Beach High School on Tuesday and will return on the field on January 10 against Monarch High School at 7 p.m. The Knights have won the last two District Championships and are 6-4-1 this year.
The girls beat Deerfield 8-0 with Orjuela scoring three more goals. Isabela Eloy, Stephanie Calcano, Kaylee Gonzalez, Eliana Cassara, and Kayla Hillard scored goals, while Calcano, Orjuela, McDonald, Fabiana Villegas Farias, Dominque Roccia, and Isabella Atehortua had assists. CSHS closed the year with a 5-0 win over Piper High School on December 21.
They will play J.P. Taravella in their next game on January 9 at 5 p.m. The Trojans are 1-6 this year, with their lone victory coming against Somerset Prep 7-0 on November 28.
The Colts also have several players receive their All-Conference Awards, led by state qualifier Jeffrey Belizaire in cross country. The junior won the BCAA Meet and finished second in the District and 32nd in the State Championship. He also had a personal best of 16.00:22 in a win at the Spanish Invitational.
Jamarion Edgerton and Opious Knox Jr. were honored with mentions from the football team. The Colts went 5-5 under Head Coach Eddie Brown. After a terrific season, Logan Howe and Marvin Nixon received an Honorable Mention in bowling.
