La Dona at Sawgrass Mills Shut Down Again After Health Inspectors Uncover 19 Violations Arepasmania at Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise was ordered closed on February 4 after inspectors found live roaches, mold inside an ice machine, and multiple sanitation violations during a state health inspection.

According to a Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation report, Arepasmania, located in the Sawgrass Mills food court, was ordered closed on February 4 after an inspection identified 10 violations.

Among the most serious findings was the widespread presence of live roaches in the kitchen. Inspectors observed live roaches in a bin containing canned corn and chickpeas, stored beneath an employee handwashing sink; under a case of black beans in the kitchen; and along a wall next to the same handwashing sink, where live roaches were seen crawling.

The inspection also noted an accumulation of black and green mold-like substance inside the restaurant’s ice machine.

Inspectors also cited improper employee hygiene practices. An employee was observed failing to wash their hands before putting on gloves to handle food. The employee then washed their hands while still wearing gloves and continued handling cooked foods.

Food storage violations were also noted. Raw meat products were not properly separated based on required cooking temperatures, and inspectors found a tray of raw shell eggs stored behind a container of raw pork in a cooler under the flat top on the front line.

Arepasmania was ordered closed until the violations are corrected.
