Conceptual rending of New Baptist Health Hospital in Sunrise FL.
Baptist Health South Florida plans to build a large hospital in Sunrise near the Sawgrass Expressway.
Construction is expected to begin once permitting is complete, anticipated before the end of 2025, with the hospital projected to open in 2028. The company is currently in the design and permitting phase, which is expected to continue throughout 2025. According to Kayla Hinchey, spokesperson for Baptist Health, the project costs have not been released.
The new hospital will include approximately 100 inpatient beds and 25 emergency department bays, offering comprehensive emergency, surgical, and inpatient care. According to Hinchey, patients will also have access to Baptist Health’s specialized services, including cancer, orthopedic, cardiovascular, and brain and spine care.
The hospital will be equipped with advanced medical technology to ensure the highest standard of patient care, backed by ongoing research.
“We’re proud to incorporate advanced sustainability features, like solar power, rainwater collection, all-electric systems, and infrastructure for future renewable energy use, demonstrating our dedication to community health and environmental responsibility,” said Hinchey.
The new hospital is designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of Sunrise, one of the largest cities in Broward County without a hospital. As the community continues to expand with increasing residential and commercial development, the hospital will provide essential medical services close to home, according to Hinchey.
Additionally, the hospital is planned with strong attention to neighborhood integration with noise mitigation, pedestrian-friendly access, and landscaping that blends well with surrounding residential and commercial areas. “As our communities grow, the hospital is built with flexibility to expand and evolve alongside them,” said Hinchey.
“As Sunrise continues to grow, the need for accessible, high-quality healthcare in the community has never been more essential,” said Ana Lopez-Blazquez, chief strategy officer of Baptist Health. “With state-of-the-art technology, integrated specialty services, and a future-focused design, we’re building a healthcare destination that meets the needs of today while anticipating the demands of tomorrow.”
