The Piper High School athletic teams hosted Senior Nights before the start of the postseason.
The baseball team, which featured three seniors, finished the regular season with a record of 10-9-1. The Bengals had a seven-game win streak and went 10 games without a loss during the middle of the season before the start of the District Tournament.
The Bengals are seeded fourth and will play Monarch High School in the opening round of the District Tournament on Monday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. The Knights went 7-16 this season and lost 10-5 in their first meeting this season. The winner of this game will play West Boca Raton High School, Coral Springs High School will play Olympic Heights, and Deerfield Beach will play Fort Lauderdale High School.
The flag football team shined during the regular season, going 11-3. These seniors are Makalya Condon, Morvia Stephenson, Kimyah Smith, Lexi Morel, Madison Mardsen, Aliyah McFarlane, Jayla Ellison, Elise Grant, and Niyomi Edwards.
The Bengals closed the season out with four straight wins, including a 38-0 win over West Broward High School. They are seeded fourth in the District Tournament and will play Cooper City High School in the first game on Monday, April 14, at 4:30 p.m.
The Lighting went 10-2 this year but lost one of their two games against Piper. The winner of this game will play top-seeded Western High School. Marjory Stoneman Douglas will play the winner of Coral Glades and Monarch High School.
The track and field team features seniors Jamel Francois, Terrance Gillins, Julien Hailey, Doudley Jean Mary, Davaris Lawson, Decree McCarthy, Josiah Ridley, Ryan Sinclair, and Montrial Thomas. The Bengals came in first place in seven events at J.P. Taravella, with Jordon London and Ahmad Dejean winning races on the track. Josh Tucker and Alijah McKenzie won in hurdles, while Giovanny Barnett won the long and triple jumps.
Piper also had Nathan Edwards, Jayden Daley, Jeanajay Hyacinthe, and Davaris Lawson come in second in the 4 x 100 relay, along with the 4 x 400 relay with Doudley Jean Mary, Rylan Sinclair, Jahmani Chin-Suer, and Andre Wilson. Lawson, Decree McCarthy, and Joshua Taylor all placed second in their events.
Justyse Dixon, Sarai James, and Tatiana Jones are the sensors for the girls’ team. Allyson Knowles placed second in the 400 meters, and Jabreaa Gordon came in third. They each ran in the 4 x 400 relay and placed third, along with Dixon and Paris Robinson. Tashara Connell placed in the top ten multiple times, along with Dixon, Robinson, Tatiana Jones, and Imani Jenkins.
