Tamarac resident Krystal Patterson defeated incumbent Commissioner Elvin Villalobos for the city’s District 3 commission seat Tuesday, according to unofficial election results.
Patterson, executive director of the West Perrine Community Redevelopment Agency, is the founder and president of Tamarac-based H.E.R.S. (Helping Executives Reach Solutions) Consulting and is a former Director of Code Compliance, Parking Enforcement, and Sanitation for the city of North Miami. She lives in Catalina Lakes.
According to unofficial Broward County Supervisor of Election results posted Tuesday night, Patterson earned 4,763 votes – nearly 56 percent of the District 3 tally – versus Villalobos’ 3,757 votes.
The results show that Patterson– a former investigator for the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation– will replace Villalobos, a longtime business owner and realtor elected to the commission in 2020.
According to her biography, Patterson has held positions such as vice chair of the Privatization Committee for the city of Tamarac, member of the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, and chair of the Professional Development Committee with the National Forum for Black Public Administrators. She has not previously held elective office.
Patterson’s campaign appeared to be backed by controversial Tamarac Commissioner Marlon Bolton, who unofficial election results show was re-elected Tuesday. Bolton spent months attacking Villalobos on the fake news website he allegedly operates, Tamarac Post.
Patterson declined to critique Bolton or assess his record in a recent interview with the Sun Sentinel’s Editorial Board.
Patterson did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment Tuesday night.
Patterson, the wife of a law enforcement officer, holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s degree in public administration from Florida International University. According to her online biography, she was recognized as one of Legacy Magazine Miami’s Most Powerful and Influential Leaders in 2023.
