After a woman’s arrest for shoplifting, police discovered her two-year-old child had been left alone in a Pompano motel room in unsanitary conditions.
On November 7, the Margate Police Department arrested a woman, identified as Aubreeyanah King, 25, of Deerfield Beach, on multiple charges, including child neglect and shoplifting.
According to MPD records, officers initially received a call reporting a shoplifting incident at the Walmart at 5555 West Atlantic Blvd. Upon arrival, officers identified and detained King, who had an active felony warrant for violation of probation.
The Margate Walmart’s Asset Protection Associate reported witnessing King on security footage placing items into her purse and exiting without attempting to pay.
Officers recovered $100 worth of merchandise from King. According to court records, King has a record of previous theft-related convictions, with prior charges on October 27, 2023, and August 24, 2021.
During the investigation, officers learned that King had left her two-year-old child unattended at the Budgetel Hotel at 1411 Northwest 31st Avenue in Pompano Beach.
Police responded to the hotel and, upon entry into the room King had rented, discovered the child alone, sitting on the floor in a soiled diaper with no adult supervision. The child was taken into custody by law enforcement.
King was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail where she was held on a $3,000 bond for child neglect.
