A woman known for her previous credit card fraud arrests now faces 20 criminal charges for exploiting an elderly individual in Coconut Creek.
Brittany Chenrick, 33, of Boca Raton, is facing felony 20 criminal charges, including felonies related to exploiting disabled adults over 60, misusing their identification, and stealing from them.
In a court appearance on Friday, Chenrick was denied bond on all charges, including possession of fentanyl, two counts of grand theft, two counts of criminal use of personal ID information without consent, fraudulent use of a credit card, possession of another person’s ID, and illegal use of a credit card.
Chenrick also faces two counts of grand theft and ten counts of fraudulent ID use without consent.
Arrest records show that Chenrick has had prior run-ins with the law, including arrests in December at a U-Haul Moving & Storage facility in Coconut Creek and, most recently, in Coral Springs for grand theft stemming from an alleged credit card fraud incident in October of 2022 at a Walgreens store located at 11750 West Sample Road.
According to an arrest report, the October charges stem from a complex scheme involving fraudulent transactions, stolen identities, and the possession of fentanyl.
According to the report, a Walgreens store manager alerted law enforcement during the October incident after noticing Chenrick and an unidentified white male spending an unusually long time inside the store, conducting multiple transactions totaling over $1,800.
According to an arrest warrant, what first made employees grow suspicious was the couple shopping for a long time, making several purchases, some with declined cards, some that were approved.
Before officers from the Coral Springs Police Department arrived, the report shows that the male companion fled the scene, making matters even more suspicious as Chenrick continued to shop anxiously.
According to the report, she appeared visibly anxious as officers approached her in the checkout line, where she had a cart full of miscellaneous items she was about to purchase.
Upon the officer’s request, Chenrick willingly showed officers the cards she claimed were used for the purchases, handing over more than ten cards, primarily gift cards, and four Florida Office of Self-Sufficiency cards bearing her name. However, store employees signaled to the deputies that she was being dishonest and had used different cards for the transactions.
Further investigation revealed that none of the cards used in the transactions bore Chenrick’s name. Instead, she had a card in her purse that she claimed was given to her by her “sugar daddy.”
A check of the card’s owner revealed it belonged to a black female who had no connection to Chenrick and had not authorized any charges on her card. The victim confirmed she still possessed her cards, indicating that the ones used in the transactions were illegal duplicates.
As the evidence mounted against Chenrick, a search of her purse led to the discovery of fentanyl.
Chenrick is currently held at the Paul Rein Detention Facility without bond.
