There’s something new at Pete’s Barber Shop. The Margate business now has a new owner, Elijah Zamora.
Zamora has worked at Pete’s as a barber for about ten years but is now taking over from Steve Strouse, who is selling the shop after a 25-year career, including 17 years as the owner.
To celebrate, they held a ribbon cutting on July 2 that family, friends, and city leaders attended.
“I have always wanted to own a barbershop,” said Zamora. “When I was in high school, I began cutting my friends’ hair, and eventually, I went through the process of becoming a professional barber. I want to continue what we have been doing and provide good and consistent service to our customers.
Strouse loves working as a barber and plans to work part-time at the shop. “I love cutting hair, but I am at a place where I can retire. I will spend my winters in New York, but I will come here and cut my hair a few days a week. I want Elijah to be successful,” he added.
Pete’s Barber Shop caters to men, although women are welcome. Upon entering, there are five barber chairs, sports memorabilia, and photos of longtime customers and children who had received their first haircut.
“This is a place where customers can feel comfortable. They can make friends and hang out. When they leave, they will look and feel better,” said Zamora.
During the ribbon cutting, Mayor Tommy Ruzzano praised Zamora for choosing to own a business in Margate and wished him success.
Vice Mayor Arlene Schwartz said she was impressed with the business. “The barbershop has a positive brand in Margate, and I want it to continue,” she said.
Commissioner Anthony Caggiano said, “I want the legacy of this business to continue.”
Pete’s Barber Shop is located at 5833 Margate Boulevard in Margate.
