Alexander Figueroa {BSO}
A Coral Springs man allegedly stabbed his mother and father with a knife Saturday after smoking from a THC vape pen, according to court records.
Alexander Figueroa, 21, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to an arrest affidavit. He was being held without bond Wednesday at the Broward County Main Jail.
The alleged attack happened after Figueroa and his cousin smoked from a THC vape pen Saturday night, the cousin told police. The two were walking in a Coral Springs neighborhood—the location of which was redacted by police—when Figueroa began acting “weird” and asked his cousin, “Where do you want to go, to heaven or hell?” the affidavit states.
Figueroa soon became aggressive, took his cousin’s phone from him, and smashed the device before walking around the neighborhood alone, records state. The cousin said he alerted Figueroa’s family to his concerning behavior, and they set out to find him.
Figueroa’s mother and cousin got him inside the vehicle to drive him home, but he tried kicking out a car window while inside the vehicle, according to the affidavit. He later ran inside the house, got naked, and then ran back outside, where he stabbed his mother and punched her in the face, the records state.
He also stabbed his father when he intervened and tried to attack the family dog, the documents state.
Figueroa’s parents suffered large cuts in the attack. His father said his son had been having mental health issues prior to the attack.
A judge ordered a mental health screening for Figueroa, records show.
