J.P. Taravella had an intense week with their football, cross country, and bowling teams all in action.
J.P. Taravella football recorded their first win of the season, head coach Yapphet Butler’s first victory with his new team. They beat Pompano Beach High School 27-6 for the second straight season.
Marcus Jean Baptiste tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Quinton Toussaint and a 55-yard score to Miles Green. Romeo Williams added a 17-yard touchdown, with Adrian Myron finding the end zone from three yards out. Sebastian Marrero made three extra points, with Jayden Joselin and Edward Burns picking off passes.
The Trojans will play Pompano Beach High School in their next game on Thursday, September 14, against Pembroke Pines Charter. The Jaguars are 3-0 this week with victories over Northeast, Coral Springs Charter, and North Broward Prep.
Track
With 14 schools and over 140 runners, the track and field team finished fifth in their first race on August 25. They were led by Scardy Fils, who finished 25 at 19:45.6. Anthony Duncan placed second on the team at 20:16.4. In contrast, Dominguez Martinez and Ali Mustfa finished 36 and 37, respectively. Elijah Vessels cracked the top 50, while Donald Lee finished 51. Akeem Beckford, Craig Dennis, and Darren Garson competed for the Trojans.
They followed that up with a third-place finish in their second race at Quiet Waters on Tuesday. Vessels finished fifth overall, followed by Duncan, Rodriguez, Fils, and Dennis, all placing in the top 16. Mustfa and Beckford finished with nearly identical times, with Lee, DeAneglo Preuitt, and Pruett Gasdon also racing.
Fils, Duncan, and Beckford then all placed in the top 11 in their race on Thursday, with Mustfa finishing 19 in Deerfield Beach.
Bowling
The boys bowling team continues to dominate, having won all eight matches while averaging over 1,000 pins. Zachary Kimbrell scored 255 after leading the team to a second-place finish, Districts, and an appearance in States.
Swim
The swim team beat competed in a three-team meet and beat Monarch but lost to Western High School. They will face Dillard in their next meet after having ice compete in States last year.
