A man and woman were arrested following an early morning 911 call from a resident reporting that the pair was banging on her door, with the man allegedly armed.
On October 14, Margate Police Department officers responded to a 911 caller who reported two individuals outside her home banging and trying to get in.
According to the report, officers, suspecting a potential burglary in progress, were also informed a male subject at the scene had a firearm.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Danique Shelley, 27, or Margate, and Lovando Tucker, 27, of Lauderdale Lakes, outside the residence.
Arrest records show that MPD officers instructed Tucker to show his hands and allow them to inspect his waist for safety reasons, but he refused to comply.
Officers noted in the report that while Tucker refused to comply with multiple commands, Shelley stepped directly before him, physically obstructing officers’ view, which caused a significant safety concern.
Officers reported during the chaos spotting a bulge on Tucker’s right hip, consistent with a concealed firearm, which only heightened concerns that he was armed and officers were in danger.
Despite receiving multiple verbal commands to step aside, Shelley allegedly refused to move. Officers attempted to physically remove her from Tucker, at which point he reportedly grabbed onto Shelley.
Once officers restrained Tucker, the report shows they confirmed the presence of a firearm on his right hip.
Further investigation revealed that the firearm recovered from Tucker was reported stolen and illegally equipped with an auto-sear, commonly referred to as a “switch,” which converts it into a machine gun.
Law enforcement also noted that he obstructed the investigation by failing to comply with commands, using Shelley as a physical barrier, and resisting identification.
Tucker and Shelley were arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
Shelley was released after posting a $500 bond, while Tucker was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
Records show that on October 17, the Margate Police Department again arrested Tucker. The report shows officers warned Tucker he was loitering in front of Marco’s Burgers, located at 4320 North State Road 7.
Records show Tucker fled on foot and was later taken into custody, once again with an illegal firearm. He currently remains in custody.
