Coconut Creek Police honored six students and a teacher at the April 25 commission meeting for going above and beyond to help others in their schools.
According to Scotty Leamon, public information officer for the police department, Do the Right Thing is a non-profit that recognizes students and teachers who are making a positive difference in their schools.
Bianca Pereira and Alicia Zanforlin, fourth graders at Tradewinds Elementary School, became friends with a girl in their class who did not speak English. They realized the girl did not have much clothing and school supplies, so they worked together to donate clothing and supplies to her.
Mila Chargualaf is a first-grader at Winston Park Elementary School. She was recognized for her efforts in raising $1,200 for the American Heart Association.

Matthew Diaz is a first-grader at Coconut Creek Elementary School. He was recognized for correcting some boys who were making fun of a girl in his class.

Kendahl Stephenson is an eighth grader at Lyons Creek Middle School. She was honored for helping a classmate in a wheelchair get to her classes on two floors.
Jessenia Almanzar, a senior at Monarch High School was honored because she has had a positive impact on her school. She is president of the Student Government Association and a leader in the Coconut Creek Police Explorers program.

Alisia Feldman, a teacher and debate coach at Lyons Creek Elementary School, was recognized for her positive impact on the school. The debate team has performed well in Broward County competitions.
