A man faces multiple felony battery charges after a victim alleged he choked her until she was unconscious and injured her as she attempted to escape.
On June 29, the Margate Police Department responded to the scene of a reported chaotic domestic dispute at a residence that left one victim with serious injuries.
According to records, it was only after the blood-soaked victim escaped, screaming and begging neighbors to call 911, that the attack stopped.
Records show the victim told officers that a verbal confrontation began between herself and her alleged attacker, later identified as Rashaad Jamal Jenkins, 27, grew increasingly heated, and escalated to a physical altercation as she attempted to walk away.
The victim told MPD officers as she attempted to leave, Jenkins began forcefully choking her with both hands around her neck to the point that she lost consciousness and blacked out for a period of time.
Upon regaining consciousness, the victim told officers she again attempted to distance herself from Jenkins. However, upon seeing her awake, she quickly grabbed her hair and threw her onto a bed, pushing her face down.
According to the arrest report, the victim recounted how Jenkins retrieved a firearm, chambered a round, and pushed it against the back of her head while repeatedly screaming, “Tell me the truth, or I’ll kill you.”
During her struggle to escape, the victim told officers she was struck once on the head with the firearm, resulting in a laceration at the left rear of her scalp that would later require hospitalization due to its severity.
Desperate for help, the victim described to law enforcement how she managed to break free from Jenkins, but once outside, he caught her and dragged her through the grass back to the crime scene.
Escaping once more, the victim, bleeding and without a phone, was able to find safety at a neighbor’s residence, who quickly called 911 and kept the victim safe from further terror.
Emergency services were also contacted, and upon seeing the victim’s injuries transported her to HCA Northwest Medical Center.
Medical records show the victim received staples to close the laceration on her scalp caused by Jenkins hitting her head with a firearm.
Law enforcement arrived on the scene and took Jenkings into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
