A man who had previously issued death threats, including a mention of a sword, was apprehended and now faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon after arriving at the victim’s residence, sword in hand, while police were at the scene.
On October 13, the Margate Police Department responded to a 911 call from a victim who reported a man, later identified as Matthew Thomas Brady, 29, of Coral Springs, was making death threats against her husband.
According to records, officers contacted the victim’s wife, who recounted a series of threatening messages sent by Brady that raised serious and credible concerns, including statements indicating an intention to visit the victim’s residence with a sword to “solve some problems” and to “make a statement.”
The victim showed alleged messages from Brady that were particularly troubling, including one that read, “I came here with the ‘soul’ intent to hurt.” In another disturbing message, he said, “I’ll laugh with my son with your blood spilled.”
Before leaving the victim’s residence, the responding officers spotted Brady walking toward the victim’s home. This sighting escalated the situation as officers observed a sword concealed in his pants. Fearing the potential for violence, the officers immediately ordered Brady to drop the weapon, which he complied with.
Brady allegedly claimed he was going to the victim’s residence to “set things straight.”
Brady was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
