Coconut Creek Fishing Derby {City of Coconut Creek}.
By Sharon Aron Baron
Attention all fishing enthusiasts. The Annual Fishing Derby at Sabal Pines Park is just around the corner, and you won’t want to miss it.
On Saturday, January 28, participants of all ages are invited to cast their lines at Sabal Pines Park’s lake and try their luck at reeling in the weirdest, heaviest, or most caught fish. Awards will be presented to the top anglers in each category.
To participate, all you need to bring is your fishing gear and bait, however, remember to practice catch and release to preserve the natural beauty and balance of the lake’s ecosystem.
If there are little ones who want to join in on the fun, no problem. All ages are welcome, but a parent or guardian must escort participants under 18.
The Fishing Derby will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Sabal Pines Park, at 5005 NW 39 Avenue. Check-in will be at the two-story pavilion near the football fields.
Registration for the Fishing Derby is ongoing until filled, but space is limited to 20 participants.
Walk-in registration is accepted at the Recreation Complex (4455 Sol Press Boulevard) or the Community Center (1100 Lyons Road).
Online registration is also available at www.CoconutCreek.net/WebTrac, but you must have a WebTrac account before registering. Don’t have an account yet? No problem! You can set one up at either the Recreation Complex or the Community Center.
Participation costs $15 for Coconut Creek residents and $20 for non-residents.
